PLANET JAM

planet jam

Date : Sep/27 (Sat) ~ Nov/08 (Sat)

Opening : Sep/27 (Sat) 5pm ~ 7pm

The second exhibition of MASATAKA CONTEMPORARY will be a group show “PLANET JAM” with artists Saki Fujikawa、Ryoko Kumakura、and Kinoko.

Each artist and the world they inhabit can be described as a ‘planet’ and those forces meeting, intersecting, and merging, much like a spontaneous and coincidental ‘jam session’ creates an interesting environment for expression.

The fluid and soft lines of Fujikawa’s work are extremely appealing. Unbeknownst to the viewer, these graceful lines, seemingly conveyed as improvised, are at times highly calculated and planned. The subjects depicted are of those encountered on a daily basis, but this creates a viewing experience of comfort and familiarity.

The objects that artist Kumakura draws are of stuffed animals and ‘kawaii’ characters; when inspected closely depict eroticism through seductive poses. Her theatrical art pieces express a dynamic global view that allows one to contemplate the value of ‘kawaii’.

The vivid colors conveyed through the main character; of an ordinary cute girl, brings forth a mysterious atmosphere and charm, in Kinoko’s work. An unlimited background and story can be imagined through each piece, and the ways they are interpreted by the audience are of wonder and curiosity.

I hope you enjoy the ‘Jam Session’ of these three ‘Planets’.
